Diesel Injector Problem — Engine Hesitation
Hesitation or stumble on acceleration means fuelling is momentarily failing to meet demand — rail pressure dips or individual injectors respond slowly.

Symptoms
Engine Hesitation
Hesitation or stumble on acceleration means fuelling is momentarily failing to meet demand — rail pressure dips or individual injectors respond slowly..
Diagnostic Tests
Live-data rail pressure check
Compares requested vs actual rail pressure at idle, under load and while cranking to separate supply, pump and injector faults.
Cylinder balance / contribution test
The ECU's per-cylinder correction values identify which injector is over- or under-fuelling.
Injector leak-off test
Measures return flow from each injector with graduated bottles. One injector returning well above the others is internally worn.
Common Causes
Rail-pressure regulator fault
A drifting IMV/PCV cannot hold commanded pressure, causing hunting and hesitation.
Sticking injector needle
Deposits or wear make the needle slow to open or close, upsetting delivery timing and quantity.
Excessive injector back-leak
Internal wear lets high-pressure fuel escape to the return line, starving the rail.
Repair Solution
Run a full diagnostic scan and record all stored fault codes before clearing anything.Test before replacing: leak-off, live data and balance tests isolate the faulty injector(s).Replace confirmed faulty injectors with bench-tested remanufactured units and code them to the ECU.Always fit new copper washers and seals when an injector is removed.
