Common DW10C Injector Problems

1

Rough idle and engine vibration

Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.

2

Excessive exhaust smoke

Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.

3

Poor fuel economy

A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.

4

Engine misfire under load

Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.

5

Difficult cold starting

Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.

6

Loss of power

Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.

7

Increased diesel knock

Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Engine Intelligence

PSA / Ford 2.0 HDi & TDCi Euro 5 (DW10C — 308, 407, C4, C5, Galaxy, Mondeo)

Documented failure modes

  • Injector back-leak beyond specification preventing the rail from building starting pressure
  • Injector seal leakage with fuel seepage visible around the injector area
  • Nozzle wear degrading atomisation and idle quality

Diagnostic guidance

  • On low/no rail pressure, follow the documented order: low-pressure feed first, then HP pump, then injector back-leak — before condemning injectors
  • Circuit codes (P0201–P0204) point electrical; pressure codes (P0087) point hydraulic — diagnose accordingly
  • Delphi injectors carry a C3I calibration code — register the new code after fitting
  • Inspect for fuel seepage around the injectors on hard-start complaints

Fault codes linked to this engine's injectors

Fitment note: The Euro 5 DW10C platform spans PSA and Ford engine codes with both Delphi and other fitments by output — always match the reference etched on the injector body.
