P228C Fuel Pressure Regulator Control — Causes & Fix

What Does P228C Mean?

P228C indicates the ECU's commanded fuel pressure regulator duty cycle is outside the normal operating window. The fuel pressure regulator (metering valve) sits on the high-pressure pump and controls how much fuel enters the rail. When the ECU has to command the regulator to extreme positions to maintain target pressure, P228C is set — this usually means something else in the fuel system is causing abnormal demand on the regulator.
