Common problems solved by these injectors

About the KVJA engine

The KVJA is a 1.4l hdi/tdci common rail diesel engine. This engine uses Bosch diesel injectors.

Common KVJA Injector Problems

1

Rough idle and engine vibration

Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.

2

Excessive exhaust smoke

Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.

3

Poor fuel economy

A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.

4

Engine misfire under load

Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.

5

Difficult cold starting

Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.

6

Loss of power

Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.

7

Increased diesel knock

Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Engine Intelligence

PSA / Ford / Toyota 1.4 HDi / TDCi / D-4D (DV4)

Documented failure modes

  • Nozzle wear causing over-fuelling
  • Injector back-leak out of specification
  • Carbon build-up at the injector seat causing compression leaks

Diagnostic guidance

  • Compare leak-off volumes across all four injectors to isolate the faulty unit
  • Keep the fuel system scrupulously clean during work — small common-rail systems are highly sensitive to debris
  • Clean the injector seat and fit a new sealing washer on every refit

Fault codes linked to this engine's injectors

Fitment note: The DV4 1.4 was built with BOTH Bosch (8HP/8HR) and Siemens (8HX/8HZ/8HT, Ford F6JA/F6JB) injection systems — they are not interchangeable. Always confirm the etched part number.
