Common problems solved by these injectors

About the CTBA engine

The CTBA is a 3.0l v6 tdi cr common rail diesel engine. This engine uses Bosch diesel injectors.

Volkswagen Touareg (7P) injector 3.0 V6 TDI2011–2018

Common CTBA Injector Problems

1

Rough idle and engine vibration

Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.

2

Excessive exhaust smoke

Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.

3

Poor fuel economy

A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.

4

Engine misfire under load

Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.

5

Difficult cold starting

Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.

6

Loss of power

Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.

7

Increased diesel knock

Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Engine Intelligence

Audi / VW / Porsche 3.0 V6 TDI (A6/A7 C7, Touareg 7P, Macan, Cayenne — CR piezo)

Documented failure modes

  • Piezo injector electrical faults logging group supply-voltage codes
  • Injector correction values drifting out of range as the piezo stack ages
  • Injector sealing washer leaks allowing combustion blow-by around the injector

Diagnostic guidance

  • Compare injector balance / correction values across all six cylinders — an outlier identifies the failing unit
  • On group supply-voltage codes, check the injector harness and connectors before replacing hardware
  • Check return flow to identify a hydraulically defective injector
  • Injector coding is required after fitting — follow the manufacturer procedure

Fault codes linked to this engine's injectors

Fitment note: VAG 3.0 V6 TDI injection changed across generations — this CKV/CTB/CVV-era engine takes the 0445117027-type unit, different from earlier CJG-era references; always match the number etched on the injector body.
