About the BKP engine
The BKP is a 2.0l tdi pd common rail diesel engine. This engine uses Siemens VDO / Continental diesel injectors.

Common BKP Injector Problems
Rough idle and engine vibration
Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.
Excessive exhaust smoke
Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.
Poor fuel economy
A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.
Engine misfire under load
Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.
Difficult cold starting
Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.
Loss of power
Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.
Increased diesel knock
Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Engine Intelligence
VW / Audi 2.0 TDI 16v PPD (BKP era — Passat B6, Golf, Touran, A6 — Siemens piezo PD)
Documented failure modes
- Piezo unit injector internal/electrical failure — the ECU can shut injection down, causing the documented sudden-stall behaviour of this PPD system
- Injector delivery drift showing as deviation values out of range
- Injector seal leakage with diesel smell and contamination around the injector wells
Diagnostic guidance
- This is the Siemens piezo Pumpe-Düse (PPD) system — diagnosis and parts differ from both common-rail AND Bosch solenoid PD engines
- On a sudden cut-out, read cylinder-specific codes and use injector isolation to identify the failed unit
- Check the injector loom and connectors before condemning a piezo unit
- Follow the manufacturer clamp torque and setting procedure exactly when fitting
Fitment note: The 16v BKP-era engines use the 03G130073S-type Siemens piezo (PPD) unit — NOT interchangeable with the 8v Bosch solenoid PD unit; match the number etched on the injector body.
