Common CBAA Injector Problems
Rough idle and engine vibration
Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.
Excessive exhaust smoke
Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.
Poor fuel economy
A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.
Engine misfire under load
Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.
Difficult cold starting
Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.
Loss of power
Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.
Increased diesel knock
Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Engine Intelligence
VW / Audi / Škoda / SEAT 2.0 TDI CR (EA189 — Golf 6, Passat, Tiguan, T5, Amarok)
Documented failure modes
- Injector delivery drift showing as misfire-like running and deviation values out of range
- Injector electrical faults logging cylinder circuit or group codes
- Rail-pressure faults (pump, control valve, leaks) that mimic injector failure
Diagnostic guidance
- Read injector deviation values in diagnostic software — a large outlier identifies the weak unit
- Injector symptoms overlap with dual-mass flywheel and EGR faults on the EA189 — rule them out before replacing hardware
- On group or circuit codes, check the injector harness and connectors first
- Injector coding is required after fitting — follow the manufacturer procedure
Fitment note: EA189 2.0 TDI spans many engine codes and outputs across cars, T5 vans and Amarok, with different Bosch references per application (and the BiTDI uses its own spec) — always match the reference etched on the injector body.
