Vehicles Using 4M41 Engine
| Vehicle | Engine | Years |
|---|---|---|
| Mitsubishi Canter injector | 3.0 / 3.2 Diesel | 2005–2014 |
| Mitsubishi L200 injector | 3.2 DI-D | 2006–2015 |
| Mitsubishi Pajero injector | 3.2 DI-D | 2006–2016 |
| Mitsubishi Shogun injector | 3.2 DI-D | 2006–2019 |
Common 4M41 Injector Problems
Rough idle and engine vibration
Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.
Excessive exhaust smoke
Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.
Poor fuel economy
A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.
Engine misfire under load
Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.
Difficult cold starting
Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.
Loss of power
Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.
Increased diesel knock
Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Documented failure modes
- Injector back-leak rising beyond specification with age
- Nozzle wear causing over-fuelling and smoke
- Injector seat sealing failure allowing combustion gas leakage
Diagnostic guidance
- Compare leak-off return volumes across all four injectors — a single high reading identifies the failing unit
- Denso common-rail injectors carry compensation codes — register the new code after fitting
- Clean injector bores and seats thoroughly; use new sealing washers on every refit
Fitment note: The 4M41 was fitted with different Denso injector references across production years — match the reference etched on the injector body before ordering.
