Injector Copper Washer Replacement — Step-by-Step Guide

Updated for 2026 diagnostics & repair guidance

The copper washer (sealing washer) seals combustion pressure between the injector nozzle and its seat. A failed washer leaks combustion gas past the injector — the chuffing noise and hard carbon build-up known as 'black death'. Every injector removal requires a new washer; re-using one is the single most common cause of repeat seat leaks.
