About the DDYA engine
The DDYA is a vw/audi/seat/skoda 2.0 tdi (ea288) common rail diesel engine. This engine uses Delphi diesel injectors.

Common DDYA Injector Problems
Rough idle and engine vibration
Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.
Excessive exhaust smoke
Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.
Poor fuel economy
A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.
Engine misfire under load
Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.
Difficult cold starting
Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.
Loss of power
Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.
Increased diesel knock
Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Engine Intelligence
VW / Audi / Škoda / SEAT 1.6 TDI (EA288 — Golf 7, Caddy, Tiguan, Octavia)
Documented failure modes
- Injector seal / seat leakage — soot or crust around the injector base with diesel smell
- Injector delivery drift showing as large correction (deviation) values in live data
- Injector electrical faults logging single-cylinder circuit codes
Diagnostic guidance
- Read injector deviation values in diagnostic software — a large outlier identifies the weak unit, interpreted together with fault codes
- Inspect injector seats for soot and the return lines for leaks — sealing faults are common and mimic internal failure
- EGR and DPF faults produce very similar drivability symptoms on the EA288 — rule them out before replacing injectors
- Injector coding is required after fitting — follow the manufacturer procedure
Fitment note: EA288 1.6 TDI variants span many engine codes and outputs, and the platform used both Delphi and Bosch injection by application — always match the reference etched on the injector body.
