Common problems solved by these injectors

About the D4CB engine

The D4CB is a 2.5l crdi common rail diesel engine. This engine uses BOSCH diesel injectors.

Vehicles Using D4CB Engine

VehicleEngineYears
Hyundai H-1 / iLoad / i800 injector 2.5 CRDi2007–2015
Hyundai Starex injector 2.5 CRDi2007–2015
Hyundai Terracan injector 2.5 CRDi2004–2007
Kia Sorento I (BL) injector 2.5 CRDi2002–2009

Common D4CB Injector Problems

1

Rough idle and engine vibration

Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.

2

Excessive exhaust smoke

Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.

3

Poor fuel economy

A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.

4

Engine misfire under load

Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.

5

Difficult cold starting

Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.

6

Loss of power

Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.

7

Increased diesel knock

Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Engine Intelligence

Hyundai / Kia 2.5 CRDi (D4CB — H-1, iLoad, Starex, Sorento)

Documented failure modes

  • Injector back-leak beyond specification causing rail-pressure loss
  • Nozzle wear causing over-fuelling, knock and smoke
  • Poor atomisation from worn injectors producing white/grey smoke and incomplete combustion

Diagnostic guidance

  • Run a leak-off / return-flow test and compare injector balance data before condemning a single unit
  • Separate injector faults from rail-pressure, EGR and fuel-supply faults — the symptoms overlap on this engine
  • Clean injector bores and seats thoroughly and fit new sealing washers on every refit

Fault codes linked to this engine's injectors

Fitment note: The D4CB 2.5 CRDi ran several injector references across Euro 3/4/5 revisions — match the reference etched on the injector body before ordering.
