Common problems solved by these injectors

About the BSG engine

The BSG is a 2.7l v6 tdi cr common rail diesel engine. This engine uses Bosch diesel injectors.

Common BSG Injector Problems

1

Rough idle and engine vibration

Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.

2

Excessive exhaust smoke

Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.

3

Poor fuel economy

A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.

4

Engine misfire under load

Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.

5

Difficult cold starting

Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.

6

Loss of power

Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.

7

Increased diesel knock

Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Engine Intelligence

Audi / VW 2.7 TDI V6 (BSG / BPP — Bosch piezo)

Documented failure modes

  • Piezo injector internal leak-back rising with temperature
  • Nozzle tip coking on short-journey duty cycles
  • Injector circuit faults from loom or connector degradation

Diagnostic guidance

  • Piezo injectors must never be energised with solenoid-type test currents
  • Measure back-leak per bank on the V6 — both rails must be compared
  • Injector calibration values must be written following the manufacturer procedure after fitting

Fitment note: The 2.7 TDI shares its Bosch piezo platform with 3.0 TDI variants but references differ by output — match the 0445115/0445116 number etched on the injector body.
