Common A13DTC Injector Problems

1

Rough idle and engine vibration

Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.

2

Excessive exhaust smoke

Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.

3

Poor fuel economy

A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.

4

Engine misfire under load

Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.

5

Difficult cold starting

Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.

6

Loss of power

Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.

7

Increased diesel knock

Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Documented failure modes

  • Injector seizure in the head from carbon build-up on high-mileage units
  • Nozzle wear causing over-fuelling
  • Combustion leaks past the injector washer

Diagnostic guidance

  • Soak injector bores before removal on high-mileage engines
  • Clean seats fully and fit new washers before installing replacements
  • Injector codes must be registered following the manufacturer procedure after fitting

Fitment note: A13DTC/A13DTE/A13DTR Euro 5 builds use different Bosch references from the earlier Z13 generations — confirm the 0445110 number etched on the injector.
