About the QJBB engine
The QJBB is a 2.2l tdci common rail diesel engine. This engine uses Delphi diesel injectors.

Common QJBB Injector Problems
Rough idle and engine vibration
Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.
Excessive exhaust smoke
Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.
Poor fuel economy
A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.
Engine misfire under load
Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.
Difficult cold starting
Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.
Loss of power
Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.
Increased diesel knock
Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Engine Intelligence
Ford Mondeo Mk3 2.0 & 2.2 TDCi (QJBA/QJBB — Duratorq with Delphi CRI)
Documented failure modes
- Injector back-leak beyond specification on high-mileage engines
- Injector seal leakage — visible diesel around an injector, in advanced cases raising the engine-oil level
- Nozzle wear causing over-fuelling and smoke
Diagnostic guidance
- Run a leak-off comparison across all four injectors — Delphi's documented Mondeo CRI diagnosis starts there
- Check for visible diesel around the injectors and monitor the oil level on suspected seal leaks
- Delphi injectors carry a C2I calibration code — program the new code after fitting
- Separate fuel-metering / pump faults from injector faults before ordering parts
Fitment note: Mondeo Mk3 TDCi injectors differ between the 2.0 (FMBA-era) and 2.2 (QJBA) engines and by build date — always match the reference etched on the injector body.
