Common problems solved by these injectors

About the 306DTX engine

The 306DTX is a 3.0l v6 diesel common rail diesel engine. This engine uses Bosch diesel injectors.

Common 306DTX Injector Problems

1

Rough idle and engine vibration

Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.

2

Excessive exhaust smoke

Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.

3

Poor fuel economy

A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.

4

Engine misfire under load

Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.

5

Difficult cold starting

Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.

6

Loss of power

Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.

7

Increased diesel knock

Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

Engine Intelligence

Jaguar Land Rover 3.0 TDV6 / SDV6 (306DT family — Bosch piezo)

Documented failure modes

  • Piezo actuator degradation
  • Injector back-leak rising with age
  • Nozzle tip coking on regeneration-heavy duty cycles

Diagnostic guidance

  • Piezo injectors must never be energised with solenoid-type testers
  • Measure back-leak per bank — the V6 layout means both rails must be checked
  • Injector classification values must be written following the manufacturer-approved procedure after fitting

Fault codes linked to this engine's injectors

Fitment note: 3.0 TDV6/SDV6 variants use different Bosch references by model year and output — match the number etched on the injector body.
