Common problems solved by these injectors

About the B47D20 engine

The B47D20 is a 2.0-litre inline-4 turbodiesel engine produced by BMW as the successor to the N47. Introduced in 2014, the B47 features a modular design shared with BMW's newer engine families. It uses Bosch solenoid common rail injectors (primary OEM number 13538514148) and was fitted to the 1 Series (F20/F40), 2 Series, 3 Series (F30/G20), 4 Series, 5 Series (G30), X1 (F48), and X3 (G01). Common B47D20 Injector Problems

1

Rough idle and engine vibration

Worn injector nozzles cause uneven fuel spray, leading to rough idle at low RPM. Most noticeable when the engine is cold.

2

Excessive exhaust smoke

Black or blue-grey smoke on acceleration indicates poor fuel atomisation. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the injector nozzle tip.

3

Poor fuel economy

A worn or leaking injector delivers incorrect fuel quantities, reducing efficiency by 10–20% in severe cases.

4

Engine misfire under load

Intermittent misfires during acceleration suggest one or more injectors are failing to deliver the correct fuel pressure.

5

Difficult cold starting

Degraded injector nozzles struggle to atomise fuel at lower cranking pressures, causing extended crank times in cold weather.

6

Loss of power

Gradual power loss across the rev range, particularly above 2500 RPM, can indicate injector flow rate degradation.

7

Increased diesel knock

Louder than normal combustion noise, especially at idle, can indicate incorrect injection timing due to worn injector internals.

The B47 offers improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared to the N47 it replaced. Sub-variants include the B47D20A (standard output) and B47C20A (lowest output). Injector replacement requires BMW ISTA coding for each new injector.
